Chalk line is still extremely useful, but it's not £3 no more, refills are about a fiver, half decent chalk line and chalk about £12. Well worth having, not much use for setting boxes and the like.

Would be no end of fun marking chalk lines along a warehouse roof.

That what I have.

I always judge a laser level by what it comes with .If its in a daft bag with 7p's worth of tripod and some yellow glasses etc Then they are like toys .Also I have a nice RED Bosch laser with great attachments that really work and a Datum pole . People seem to think a green laser will change their life...... Well if you are on small jobs etc it wont ! Red lasers are fine .Ive never ever not been able to work with mine .

It's all about using the right tool for the job. I'm doing a new build at the moment that has 2 hallways each about 20m long. The chalk line mark is still there with no setup time required each time I am back. As are all the chalk line markings we put on on the bison slab ceilings on ground floor and even on the trusses (if that's right term for them, I often get confused) on 1st floor. We have plenty of cables installed just need some answers regarding heating & lighting before we can do any more before someone gets smart about saying all chalk lines and no cables.

Laser level has been used to set boxes throughout though.

I’m looking to buy a green laser level. I’ve seen this one which looks decent:

I bought the Huepar S03CG-B from Amazon. I has one 360 degree horizontal laser and two vertical 360 degree lasers: this 360 degree arrangements is more versatile than cross line lasers. The green colour is more visible than red lasers.
I have checked the accuracy in horizontal and vertical planes and the laser level is well within the declared tolerance. The declared accuracy is +- 1/9 inch (+- 0.11 inches) at 33ft: actual measured accuracy was +-0.050 inches at 33 feet.
With the aid of a receiver, this can be used outside.
The lock position is useful for setting slopes outside when used with the laser receiver.
The two 360 degree vertical lasers allow a plumb position from floor to ceiling: useful for marking out downlight ceiling lights.

I have that one too. Horses for courses. Some people regularly do work that merits something better. I try and survive with as few expensive gadgets as possible!

An electrician recently brought a chalk line on-site. I honestly thought he was taking the ---- but clearly not based on some of the comments here on chalk line. He deserves an apology from me. I have alot to learn :)

Chalk lines and laser lines each have their advantages.

Lasers are easy to accidentally move/knock, chalk lines stay put.

Chalk lines can be marked at any angle, lasers are generally fixed to horizontal and vertical.

Lasers can be used in existing buildings, finished rooms etc and obviously don't leave a mark whereas a chalk line will have the decorators chasing you round the site.

Because I clicked this link yesterday the seller just sent me an offer on this of £328.44 😄

If the OP is set on this particular laser, and hasn't yet bought one, it might be worth asking the seller for a discount (assuming they haven't also received this offer price).

Also good for cutting strands of cable armour, although I try to restrict their use to copper.
