I have a little 2 way db mounted on a board with some long tails on which I connect to the mains. Then I can use the socket for a light and power tools

i generally just fumble around in the dark. chance is i'll get a few cables in the right holes-- enough to get some light-- then with some power on, fix all the wrong ones. :gunsmilie:

I've got a Petzl ultra, lasts for a good 12hrs on minimum output, which is probably the same as a led lenser, brilliant when I remeber to charge it lol :)

Makita fluorescent with my 18v battery.

And I also use a rechargeable led inspection lamp. You can get them in car maintenance shops. They're good too.

I don't fumble in the dark like Tel. I take my cat with me

I have a 4 quid head torch,it gives just about enough light to cut the tails for me to shove the kettle temporary board on,the light is then a bonus

I use an led headtorch, nowt special though. For under a tenner you can get something that will do in cupboards and lofts.
A favourite when I was doing commercial work was to save any decent 8w emergency "brick" lights I stripped out. Flex and plug top for charging up the battery. Cheap as chips

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
