Got a small job to put an extra socket in supplying tumble drier. If I label it as tumble drier only, can I omitt RCD protection? Is a FCU required aswell as the socket outlet?

Also I have a request to fit spots on a dimmer in bathroom. The dimmer is outside zone 2. Is it permitted inside a bathroom or will it have to be installed outside?

If the socket is behind the appliance and unlikely to be used for anything else then no rcd required.
If cable is buried in wall then rcd needed anyway.
Bathroom dimmer ok if outside zone 2.
so what if the cable was buried at a depth greater than 50mm...and/or was given additional protection by earthed metallic conduit....?....

Never thought of It like that...
Would that comply in the same way as MI and SWA then?
In terms of it being an earthed metallic sheath then, in my opinion, yes. With MI and SWA you have to connect the sheath to earth which is not required for FP as it is already connected to the CPC.
I feel that if you are trying to omit using an RCD for operational reasons FP is one of the easiest cables to use, when the cable is buried <50mm, for this purpose.

afraid i must disagree with the use of FP negating the need for an RCD. my reasoning is that the flimsy bacofoil cable covering does not comply " with the requirements of the regulations for a protective conductor........" ( reg. 522.6.6 (i))

I did think SWA and MI were the only earthed metallic sheaths i could really think of never seen FP used to avoid additional protection via RCD..........
Not so sure now, may have to check this out

Agreed.
Put it this way , if the earth wires had been cut off at either end of the FP cable would you use the foil wrap as an earth conductor ?
Its there for heat resisting properties only.
