EPC downrated from Band C to band D .

Now what .. pay every project for a certificate from some one else or do the course ourselves at £1200 + each. ( plus 4 days off )

Also £8 cost to register every certificate same as Gemserve .....Another stealth tax

This will be the question to EPC surveyors: how much do you charge for a band D as I have to fit a PV system by the end of next week to meet yet another deadline, It's OK the customer is not selling the house so no one will ever know...
I think nearly all houses will meet band D.... for a price...

There seems to be a lot of confusion on whether the PV system counts as what you can do to get to D and access the 21p tariff...has anyone managed to get hold of anything confirming this in writing?

The consultation response from DECC makes it pretty clear that the EPC 'D' certificate has to be submitted by the homeowner together with their application for a FiT contract to their supplier of choice.

DECC have also made it clear (on Twitter) that they are not concerned how a house gets a 'D' only that it must have one before the FiTs contract starts. If it doesn't have one then the owner will be set of the 9p rate for 25 years.

So, to me, all this means that the PV is able to count towards the 'D' rating. You just have to get the EPC done at the right time and let the owner know what to do.

I have read that you have to get a 3rd party to do the EPC for this. Is this correct or can you do the assessment yourself and the PV installation if you are suitably qualified and certificated etc?

This all seems like a lot of meddling in our industry to try and weed out the cowboys (who will slip through the net, as before, but just ends up being another hurdle for us people just trying to earn an honest day's wage!!)

How subjective is the rating? - i have a horrible feeling that this will be another kick in the teeth for the honest sales/installer.

I'm still angry that i lost a nice Redland job, despite being £cheaper, because the other sales guy said that my proposal to take the ridge off and re-cement it, broke building regs!

Can imagine telling a home owner that they are at rating E, but other companies offering a D cert as part of the deal!!!!

I think they want to do more than weed out the cowboys. More like weed out pv...

What epc course should I be looking at going on and are there any local to the Bath/Bristol area.

Has anyone managed to get any written confirmation of this yet?

See Q10 in the DECC FAQ - FITs Frequently Asked Questions - Department of Energy and Climate Change

10. Can I install Solar PV to get a level D certificate then apply for FITs?

In some cases this may be possible. However, you should be aware that if you decide to install solar PV on a building that has a rating lower than D and a subsequent EPC assessment shows that the solar PV installation has not improved the rating of the building to a level of D, you will be unable to obtain the standard tariffs without undertaking further improvements to the energy performance of your property and obtaining another EPC assessment. This is because a generator must be able to provide as part of their application for FITs an EPC certificate showing a rating of level D or above for the building to which the solar PV installation is attached or wired to provide electricity.

The new legislation that will implement these changes should be published within a week or two. That will provide a definitive answer.

Sorry, may be my sense of humor, but when have we ever had a
"definitive answer" when it has got the words Government and renewable energy in the same sentence??
