Relocating / Moving a light switch

S

SparkieBusiness

Hi all,
I have a situation where I need to relocate a light switch about 3ft across.
This is due to a doorway being bricked up and the light switch needs putting near the corner.

Due to concrete flooring upstairs I cannot access the cable from above.

I am aware that I can make access to the existing cable within 150mm from the ceiling, join a new cable, go across and come down to the new switch location. But as I need to then bury the cable into the wall what can I use to make the connection between the new and existing cable?

Thanks in advance

Tyrone

In this case, a back box would be pretty useless So although not ideal by any stretch of the imagination i would agree, a staggered in-line joint using insulated (preferably heat shrinkable ones) crimps. Then an over-covering of heat shrink tubing. Finished off with the normal metal/plastic capping tubing to the new poition switch box

Thanks to you all guys!
Yep it was a living room door that had been blocked up. Needed to move light switch from next to the door frame to joining wall.
I was easily able to locate the cable in the wall and retrieved it without any damage!
Used the crimp method of joining and ran the new cable along the top of the ceiling.

Bad point;
The area over the top of the old door frame has a solid concrete support beam which I cannot clip the cable to! (and I have tried! Lol) Any ideas on what I can use to secure the cable to the concrete before the plasterer comes on Monday?

Cheers again guys and I look forward to reading your replies!

Tyrone.

Really? Super Glue? I'll use that then! I thought glue might of reacted with the cable sheath! But if you've used it and it was okay, that’s good enough for me!
