Discuss Removing reed switch alarm door sensor in the Security Alarms, Door Entry and CCTV (Public) area at ElectriciansForums.net

It`s not a pull down as you do need to read between the lines, it not that obvious when reading...but everything is explained by the op...on what the building work consists of, the back door is being removed and brick up, and this door is not a e/e zone. We could be wrong, so if the op can give us confirmation then we can go from there

Sorry, should have chipped in sooner, but have been out for Father's Day :)

If it helps at all, the system is a Cooper Menvier Scantronic 9651

There are five sensors - four PIRs and the contact sensor on the kitchen door. I don't know anything about zones - as far as I'm aware everything is on Zone A. I don't know exactly what the e/e zone is - I would have thought the front door, which is covered by one of the PIRs.

If at all possible, I would just like to remove the reed switch from the system, and leave it to rely on the PIRs. Is that possible?

OK. in the contact are 2 resistors. 1 is connected across the reed ( the 2 silver screws ). discard this resistor. connect the other resistor 1 end to the red and 1 end to the black. insulate with tape.

Ok think the quickest and easiest way is put the eol resistor back in the zone at the control panel.
the eol is the 3 red banded resistor 2k2, remove.
remove control panel cover (enter code to silence)
remove cables going to switch ie zone 3
install resistor across zone number used.
replace cover reset panel

This sounds easy enough, but I think I'll open the box tomorrow and post a picture from there, just to double check I'm doing the right thing!

Thanks so much for all the help so far. I've already removed the sensor from the door, and replaced it further back along the cable, so the urgency is gone because the builder can take the door out now :) It certainly complained at the tampering though - presumably the only way to silence it completely is with an installer code?

Your user code will silence the alarm, hence I think this is the best option......if you had installers code you could just program the zone as 00 and it would be disused.

But surely attention is still needed to the PIR nearest the front door to make it 'timed' rather than instant otherwise with the system set the alarm will go off every time Dan or other family members come into the house ? [Or as a compromise the PIR zone that covers the front door could be omitted at each alarm set, not ideal though].
