I’m replacing an old 100mm extractor fan in the kitchen with a new one. The old one was a pull cord fan whereas I bought a timer one (no pull cord) thinking I could use the isolator switch (which is directly below the fan) as the on/off switch.

The cabling is a 3 core and on the new fan there’s a L, N and T terminal. I put the live to live and natural to neutral but even when the switch is on it doesn’t come on.

Have I missed a trick?

as mentioned by Westward a link is the way forward, nothing wrong with that and the pull cord will then be the on off switch.
