Hi there i am about to replace an electric shower in the house, as i do commercial work i am concerned about the compression joint which connects the shower to the water, do i have to replace this joint? or will it fit back onto new shower sorry if this sounds a daft question but better safe than sorry, thanks for any help !!!

I only mentioned John Guest as that is fairly easy to purchase anywhere, I did my house in JG and have not had an issue but I did take time to make sure every joint was done well and ensuring your pipes don't get scuffed is a big point with plastic. You can get better push fit like Osma gold. I did hear of an estate where 192 house were plumbed in Osma gold without a single failure of the Osma fittings, any faults turned out to be down to install methods...

I am no rep for push fit, if money was not a consideration I would have soldered Cu but its 3x the cost!

A large part of my central heating uses them, pipes to garage hot & cold use them, the zone valves fitted 1.5m from the boiler uses them, the central heating pipes that run 30m down thru garden to the pond uses them. Never ever had a single leak/problem. The only disadvantage is that they stretch!

I paid ÂŁ20 for 30 meters 22mm last time I bought it (JG), what would that cost in copper? ÂŁ70-80?
well firstly the ÂŁ20 for 30 meters 22mm..thats barrier pipe innit..John Guest or not..its still barrier pipe and i was on about the fittings mate...i`v had problems with em...and so have others evidently as soon after the ones i bought..they changed the design/pattern of em...so what the new ones are like??....but i had trouble with the ones i got.....and before you ask...yes...i can plumb a house..........

Never had a problem with the fittings even ones that are permanently outside, although they have changed the inserts and they are more expensive now! That was recently I think, is it the inserts you mean?

As there are a number of barrier pipe systems out there is this a case people getting mixed up with the different systems

The John Guest speedfit only had a minor design change to remove the need for the collar locks, Hep2o had a major design change on their fittings and is a major improvement over the previous design only downside is the need for a tool to remove the fittings from the pipe

I always use the superseal inserts on speedfit pipe and never had a problem with leaks or failures so each to their own. It's also a lot easier to install barrier pipe in stud walls to install showers than trying to use copper

The thing that annoys me is these plumbers that use plastic fittings to join length after length of copper pipe make a bit of a nonsense of bonding pipes

Yeah..because their too bone idle to sweat some connectors on and do the job right........

just to digress ...... what use is a socket and see tester, a klauke screwdriver set, and a ratchet crimper to a plumber?

i don't know either, but when i catch the light-fingered sod who nicked them, he''ll need surgery to remove 6ft of copper pipe form his rectum.
