Good evening gentlemen.

I went out yesterday to look at a lighting circuit in an underground garage that is not working. Turns out the contactor is shot.

Its a brook Crompton hr1710 that is listed as an obsolete part.
I was looking for opinions on looking for a like for like replacement or replacing with a more modern version.

What would you guys do? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

any contactor with the correct no. of poles, current rating and same coil voltage will do as long as you can physically fit it.

Do mean like this one, on the right? :)

As above ^^
If you want a new Brook crompton they are straight off the shelf from either Edmundson electrical or Yess.

You guys are all stars. Why struggle alone!

I will give yesss a shout in the morning.

The inclosure has loads of space in it.

The loading is quite low with around 10x strip lights and 4x 2D lights on it.

How can you do a like for like if the thing is obsolete?

Brook crompton motors and controls split a few years ago and in doing so they made most of their range (crap design that it was) obsolete.... Inductive lighting has a specific AC contactor rating and using standard AC3 contactors can reduce the life expectancy of the contactor considerably so seek out a contactor tailored to inductive lighting loads, if resistive then swap like for like.
