I live in a warehouse condo, converted about 20 years ago. The building dates to about 1870 but with the conversion, all of the electrical was replaced. Most of the branch circuits use armored cable, running from the panel in the bedroom up into a drywall ceiling that covers about 20% of the ceiling area. From there, they feed outlets, appliances, etc. plus transition to EMT to reach areas that are not covered by the sheetrock. They installed quartz halogen undercabinet lights in the kitchen with a separate cable to each fixture, but they are all on one circuit. I want to replace these with LED tape lights. Each cable pops through a hole in the sheetrock wall just behind the fixture and was wired directly into each fixture (no box). Also on this circuit are my living room outlets. My problem is that I can't find the j-box where all of the fixture wiring ties together. I did cut a 4x4 access hole and I can reach two of the cables but can't see a box. I would prefer not to cut too many random holes in the walls. Can I take the two cables I located in tie them together in a j-box under the sink, then use the third remaining cable to provide power to the new lights?
