Hi All

My name is Sarah and I am a Product Design Engineering student currently completing my Masters degree. A large part of my course is a design project on which I have chosen to study the neck strain and pain suffered by those working in manual jobs, particularly through overhead work. Through the course of the next year I will design and build a new form of neck support to try and minimise the pain experienced in these specific jobs, whilst not interfering with the workers natural and required movements.

I have just joined the forum with the hope of gaining some invaluable opinions and experience from anyone here who has suffered this problem. I have created a short online survey and would really appreciate it if those who have the time could complete it and share your thoughts, hopefully one day my new product could be helping you out!

The link for the survey is:

Any information you can share would be really appreciated, thanks for the help!

unfortunately, most phsical pain us lot suffer is in the knees. neck pains are generally caused by pain in the neck customers, building inspectors, and H&S morons. the only cure there is a 12 bore.

Sarah Hi if I were you I would concentrate on lumber back problems, I have been an Electrician for the past 50 odd years, kneck pain for me is not a problem.
I have recently, yesterday infact basically been told my Electrician days are over due disintegrating, discs, now this has been brought about by continuous abuse from bending, lifting, bending conduit, crawling about in narrow roof spaces, meter cupboards you name it I have probably scrambled about in it, feel free to pm me if you want any information to help you get your degree, I appreciate others will have other problems, but bad backs are my issue.

Hold on hold on.....I get neck pain from the job. Looking up for hours on end each day doing lighting/fire alarms ect ect. I also agree with bad knees and back....crawling about in confined spaces ect. It all takes it's toll. Im surprised nobody has piped up with more neck strains/pains.

When you have been at it as long as me you learn to ignore the neck. knees and only get concerned with the back
