Been on a nightmare of a job today where every hole I drilled for backboxes etc just opened up too much to hold plug firmly. Back there Monday so have just had a look online at the Fischer Polyester Styrine free resin. The tube, 10 spare nozzels (it dries quickly) and the pump for cleaning out holes comes to ÂŁ30 which I am more than willing to pay if it works.

Has anyone used this or anything similar for such a lightweight fixing???

I used it in the past for fitting stud bolts when installing some heavy duty CU's where you just drill the hole, blow it clean, inject the resin and then push in the bolt.

My plan is to go around firstly blowing out all the holes, and then add some resin to each hole immediatly pushing a plug into it whilst still soft and then leaving it to go off. Will this work????

Also on a different subject (just had a conversation today with a chippy) does anyone on here use an impact driver for putting screws into rawlplugs???? I thought they were just for screwing into wood and would destroy a plug!

If the holes open up too much for a red plug I just use a brown plug instead and / or drill holes with a smaller drill bit than the plugs normally require if I can see I'm going to have problems

I always drill with a 5.5mm for red plugs which stat 6mm on the packaging. However the quality of the wall does not give a great fixing so resin seemed ideal. I have ordered some and will see how it goes Monday.

Anyone else here use an impact driver for rawl plugs?

Yeah been using an impact driver for quite a while, although i have to admit i prefer a drill driver - it's quieter!:D:D

resin will work but a cheaper solution as said in the first reply is board adhesive, works a treat in cinder block walls and the like, use it to stick the box in the hole and while it's still wet push some plugs through the fixing holes in the box, come back the next day and fire a couple of screws in!

How thick is the resin? Is it likely to run into the middle of the plug? If it does, you won't be able to get a screw in once it sets.

Now you've bought the resin, how about fixing the screws/backbox/rawlplugs together, apply resin in holes, feed in cables to backbox assembly, then pushing the whole lot in to the cavity? (Watch out for excess resin forcing its way into the box)

Alternatively, fill the holes with resin, let it go off, then screw direct into it if it isn't too hard or brittle. In other words, don't use rawlplugs.

resin for box fixing, you guys must have more money than sense.
plaster board adhesive ,mix with water slap it on stick box in it. no screws required.
trust me is as good as **** to a blanket.
3hours cure new bag or old opened bag 20mins cure.
guess which one i use:rolleyes:
