If you were to retest jobs that had been tested 5 years previously would you expect Ze to be lower or higher .RCD times to be lower or higher .Thanks Chris

I think you will find that an instrument calibrator is quite a specific (and costly) instrument. It is not just an ordinary multimeter.
and i think you will find that you dont need an instrument calibrator to calibrate instruments.

a desktop multimeter is acurate enough and after calibration can be used to calibrate other equipment.

yes a proper calibration equipment will allow testing of things like earth loop etc but we are talking about a device to measure resistance.

A multifunction calibrator used to check your MFT is not a bench top multimeter. Calibrators source voltage, current, resistance, frequency etc, a bench multimeter will only read these.

Hand held multimeters usually generate pulses of current of around 15mA which is ok for measuring inductive loads such as checking the continuity of a motor coil, but a continuity or bond test carried out in an electrical installation needs to be compliant with the 17th edition, which requires that the meter performing the continuity measurement delivers a test Current (I) of > 200mA whilst delivering a test Voltage (V) between 4V to 24V.
