Rewiring a house - Stages and prep

Alright fella's

I'll be starting my level 3 next year and have told my sister i'll rewire her house in the next 2 years! ha,
Was just wondering if anyone can explain

: the stages from start to finish how to rewire a house
: ideal preparation, eg layout drawings, specs, materials list etc?

Layout/spec ask your sister what she wants n where she wants it the planning will all depend if shes living in the house while you chase walls ect

We looked at a house n it needed a small bit of renovation n a rewire the wife just stood and said NO Your NOT getting that intigrated tv/cd/dvd/hifi/lighting/garagedoo/blinds How unhappy was I

No pal, my sister lives there, the wiring in the house is horrible, looks like a bad DIY job who ever done the electric in there.

try to leave as much power as you can to property at end of day
day1 - upstairs lights and ring+ main bonds
day2 - down lights and ring
day3 - kitchen
day4 - extras showers, cookers etc, outside lights etc
day5 - replace Db , tails, main earth then I&T
day6 - snag
Just the way i tend to approach but can vary job to job

fittings will depend on what/where she wants, if possible leave all original backboxes in place and renew wiring to them, saves chopping out etc, usually new switch drops can be pulled through as old are being pulled out.

If its your first keep it as simple as possible dont make life hard for yourself as its for family assume theres no or little money involved.
Re-wire is very simple compared to other domestic works as everything will be new so no problems to come across on existing installation,
just follow regs for cable routes etc etc
make sure all testing is done correctly and meets requirements .

oh and try not to kill yourself

day 1 get biggest hammer possible and cause mayhem
day 2 awake from deep sleep after wall partition fell on you
day 3 apologise to sister
day 4 retrain as a plumber

year 2
day 1 apologise for flooding house
day 2 empty bank account as you have no money left after paying to fix pipe
day 3 retrain as a banker

year 3
day 1 single handily bring down economy and take bonus and leave country

you know of any intensive training courses where I could do that cos day 1 of year 3 sounds mint

Lighten up and get a sense of humour! Durham is a regular and prolific contributer to this site, we all need a bit of humour and fun and this site has some of the best bunch of lads on here and some fantastic senses of humour.

Please dont take this the wrong way but if you cant have the crack and banter and put up with sarcasm then i wouldnt bother doing your level 3 mate because you will not last 5 mins on a site

as i said please dont take offence, its not ment that way but lets all have fun!!
