Rewiring this Italian 3-Pin 16A to UK 13A

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me see if this is possible.

I bought this Mole Richardson 650w Lamp on ebay expecting it to come wired with a UK 16A plug, but it instead it is this odd Italian 16A.

Would I be able to re-wire this to a UK 13A plug? Oddly it appears the ground and neutral wires are green.

That explains it, my colour blindness is to blame. I'll get someone else to do the rewiring.

The lamp itself claims '120 or 240v AC' and the print on the cable itself says 600v

The bulb in at the moment is only 300w

Should be ok, they are usually rated for 220 to 240V.

Ah ok great, so this should rewire to a UK plug with 13A fuse without issue?

Haven't seen one of those for ages! Yes, absolutely fine to rewire the plug type - just make sure you get the colours the correct way or you'll end up with a live case!

The flex will be American. Black line (live), white neutral, green earth.

Great stuff, thanks for letting us know. Did the earth continuity from plug to lamp metalwork get checked?
