If installing a hybrid heat pump would there be a charge for the heat meter to be fitted and if so would this be a yearly or one off payment.

The heat meter is part of the installation and would normally be owned and read by the owner of the installation. Whoever installs the heat pump would normally install the heat meter if one was required. There is no requirement in the RHI rules to contract with a third party to read the meter for you.

There is an extra 250 pounds for heat meter per year. If customer wants one, optional yes. 3rd party installer will install the meter. There is a list of preferred installers. But I am installing hybrid heat pump, so one is required. Not sure about costs thou.

Hi Jason
Where did you get the ÂŁ250 annual charge from ?
Have you been able to get quotes for the M&MSP's? If so who from?
As I understand it, although in a hybrid situation metering is compulsory, the M&MSP's are not compulsory, unless you want to have the additional payment from the Govt as part of your RHI payments to help them with their monitoring. - Maybe I misread that?
A decent heat meter costs about ÂŁ450.
In a hybrid heat pump situation you need a heat meter and an electricity meter (for the power to the heat pump)
We've got three hybrids on the go at the moment :).

As I understand it, if you're not going for the extra payment, there is then no requirement for a specialist meter installer as long as you are 'competent'.

Renewable Heat Incentive

to help improve performance of renewable heating systems, there will be an extra incentive for applicants who install metering and monitoring service packages, of ÂŁ230 per year for heat pumps and ÂŁ200 per year for biomass boilers

sorry thought is ÂŁ250

Yep, so it's the EXTRA payment you are going for... Looks mighty convoluted to me - we simply included the cost of the meter in the quotes.

We break our quotes down as per the RECC guidelines now as there are so many elements and then the customer understands what we have to do.

The details on what YOU have to do to offer the M&MSP to your clients was published in the consultation documents - I've attached it, because it seems to have been pulled from the MCS website (because the consultation is no longer open) :

From the EST's website The Renewable Heat Premium Payment phase 2 - Generate your own energy - Energy Saving Trust

So I guess you need to use one of these guys to install the meters etc - the MCS document above refers to subcontracting this service to them..

It is a condition of the grant that you participate fully with the survey and metering programmes. Refusal to do so will result in your grant being withdrawn or reclaimed.
A number of MCS installers have attended training events organised by BRE on the technical metering requirements of the RHPP2 scheme and have signed sub-contracts with BRE which enable them to install monitoring equipment at appropriate sites under the scheme. These firms are listed below:

I read somewhere that hybrids must have a meter installed. I have not mention to the customer about the extra payment , just in case Hybrids don't qualify. I need information if there is a fix cost to install and yearly fees.

They have to have a meter, you can install it, the customer reads it, just like a generation meter.

No metering charges.

The metering is quite straightforward - assuming we are talking about monobloc heat pump with a single outlet (that then splits Y-Plan to DHW / Heating)

You need an electrical meter to measure the consumption of the Heatpump (Use the same meter as the generation meters installed the correct way round :) ) and a heat meter to measure the heat produced. - My drawing above is exactly the one to follow.

Speak to Chris at these guys: DMS Ltd, We are Heat Meter Suppliers in the UK. We Offer a Wide Range of Different Suppliers All Across Europe - DMS Limited offers a wide range of products.
The SC 539, is a good price, and does the job, can cope with Glycol too if needed :)

pm me / call me if you need more info, it's quite simple once you get your head around it - oh - 99.99% of plumbers can't :)
