Afternoon everyone! thatnk god its Friday!!

Im looking for some help / advice

A friend of mine has moved into a new house. The house is old with brick walls. nightmare.
He wants some new sockets in with minimal damage to the walls and without lifting to many floorboards.

So I was wondering, instead of braking into a ring, can I just spur off one of the sockets near by. He wants a double socket put in for a tv and dvd player.

Its the same situation upstairs in the house although this time id be spurring off for a desktop compuer.

Do you think this can work? or will it overload and trip the breaker?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. thanks

Providing the existing ring is ok ( I assume you will test it before making any alterations) there's no reason why you cant take a spur from the ground floor and first floor ring

Cheers Bugsy, My mate said the house has been recently re-wired befoe they bought it. Theres a brand new Board in as well

No worries, just bear in mind don't use J.B's under the floor boards, if their screw terminal they need to be accessable for testing . wago do some decent connection boxes rated at 32a

Also mind that when you break into the ring ie spur of a socket with 2 Ls and 2 Ns make sure it is on the ring and not the first of 2 sockets spurred off the actual ring. got caught with that years ago

Also remember only one spur per existing socket, if you do anymore you need to put a fuse in first then you can have as many as you want.

acat is right but mind that in older installations you were allowed 2 spurs from a socket on the ring main
