Use a Martindale?

If you're going to plug one of them into every socket you might as well plug your megger in instead and test Zs!

If you do a figure of 8 R1+R2 test than surely this confirms polarity as out of three wires you've just confirmed two so process of elimination says.....?

Utter Tosh. Whoever taught you this was talking through their hoop.

If you test R1 + R2, how is that telling you you haven't got a Line / CPC swap?? - even if you do it at every outlet!

You have to then do the R1 + Rn to confirm that R1 is in the correct place.

And anyway. that's only one point - you haven't told us what 'nickblakes' results will tell him with regards to the ring final?

I'll give you some more:

1/ Will his tests tell him whether he has 'interconnections' in his Ring Final.

2/ Can he be sure then, (with the possibility of 'interconnections'), that he has end to end continuity??

Not enough information,I'm afraid, can you post up the cert results in their entirety?(Without Company names)Then I can make a valued judgement, but only on the cert, not on the installation!

Sorry i was a bit vauge at my post i do Zs every socket during a periodic , and to determin the R1R2 readings are taken at each socket to determin the max R1R2 this reading is the one recorded on the test sheet sorry for any confusion there chaps , been a very long and stressfull day

It won't tell him much doing it one socket I agree on that point.
You put across a good point Wayne n I'll take a step back here.
Yep doing a Martindale and Zs test are the same effort and I do use a Martindale on PIR's.
And yes you're right that a CPC and r1 could be cross connected so my theory goes to pot. Happy to be corrected

You have to be careful - they don't give you a Neutral/CPC swap.........mine doesn't, anyway.
I'll be happy to be corrected if some models do??

Mine does but don't ask me what model or make it is because it's in the van at work. :p

Let us know tomorrow - maybe the newer ones do now.

I think the reason they couldn't detect it is because the tester works by sensing the voltage between the two points - and there obviously shouldn't be voltage between neutral and earth.....so it can't detect the swap.

I've got a Kewtech 103 mains Wiring and Socket Checker aand that's a very handy little tool which tells you a lot about whats going onand how the sockets are connected. Not to be used as an exemption for the normal tests though.

I am just commenting on your user name, are you who i think you are, do you reside in a part of south yorkshire near Pontecarlo?

Cheers.............Howard

i've got the fluke socket tester, the 1 with the 2 test buttons. 1 for rcd test and 1 for <50v touch voltage. does not see a N/E reversal though. while no substitute for "proper" testing, a useful quick checker.

Soo I had a look today and even before IQ said last night it was not likely it did get me thinking and it appears I was wrong...again
Dear me not doing too well on this one!
