We have a client that we are installing sockets on a skirting trunking system for. The ring main is the usual office set up, computer / phone charger / calculator per desk. The socket faceplates they want to install do not come with the option of the twin earth lug set up for high integrity earth.
What options are there??

To be honest, i dont think there is an alternative.

How come they dont have twin terms?

Even most of the fancy range has them nowadays i though.

Not even sure you can get away with it even, as there are regs covering this exact issue.

Maybe worth pointing them out to the client.

:)

Unless there is less than 10 m/amp leakage then very few options I believe

Other than changing the sockets, perhaps you can use a radial circuit by installing a single earth conductor,4mm protected, and installed as a ring from the last socket

I dont think they can chose the design of the socket, without being made to realise that it may impact on the installation

There are other means of complying other than using a cpc in a ring connected to different terminals.

Hows that then?

I thought the whole idea was to have the cpc terminated into sep terminals in case one becomes disconnected for whatever reason.

Is it a secret or are you going to tell us?

Does the skirting trunking you are using have solid busbars that the sockets plug into?

No, its normal plastic trunking trunking with singles in it

I always used to twist my earths and oversleeve the pair of them until this rule came out, and I reckon its better in a way, if a screw in a terminal does come loose and the cables come out then you have lost the earth to one socket but the ring is still in tact. Ok then the ring would show up on an end to end test but you wouldn't get an earth reading at the particular socket

You could use an eye crimp on the ring cpc's and connect to the back of the box and then take a flying lead to the socket boutlet

Very interseting article, but, where it says if you are using 2 CPC in a multicore cable ie a twin and earth, I take it that means you are using say 2 x 2-5 + 1 x 1-5 twice for a ring main circuit so that would equate to 13 mm. So, does that comply?

I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but, i think the whole idea of "high integrity earthing', is for the socket outlet also.

If twin terms are used, if one cpc becomes disconnected then the socket outlet is still earthed via the remaining, still connected, cpc.

Agree with that but it is also for the wiring system as well, if the earths get disconnected in the board you have a voltage there
