Hi guys, just your thoughts please, customer has come to me after having a eicr (by someone else). Anyway there a circuit for sockets (5 in total) its on one 2.5 from the board and then goes to a jb under floor somewhere (not a problem I hear you say) but from this jb it turns from a 2.5 t+e to a 3core and earth to each of the sockets. I have to said to customer that it needs to be sorted but they don't want me to take the posh laminate up, so my dilemma could I blank off say 2 sockets and put the rest on a 16a mcb or would it be best to disconnect totally and tell him that if he wants the sockets then I need to find jb and rewire from there in the correct cable.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Had the EICR done for a reason. Why ? Knows he has problems ?
Has he been told already and trying to find a cheaper way out ?
Who knows ? Dangerous balls up.

Nicely decorated, ornate plaster on ceiling original plaster roses etc etc

Already offered that and they say no!
Did one a few months back with a mate, huge great cornice around a massive room and an enormous plaster monstrosity in the middle. As you know there's ways round all that nonsense if you're careful. The guy is being a knacker, downgrade the MCB/fuse and walk away mate.
If he upgrades it again to a 30/32 amp then it's his look out, we can't force people to have work done (Unfortunately hehe)

My best mate rang me a few years back - heard a very loud bang and smoke, then no sockets worked upstairs.

or the shower (10.8kW), or the immersion.

was all off a 2.5 radial and spidered from one Jb under the laminate floor.... Ripped it all upand it had gone off like a GRENADE

HE was lucky. Virtually rewired the house

This kind of thing really bloody annoys me! The muppet is prepared to spend god knows how much on making the house look good (in his opinion) but doesn't want to spend a few quid to protect himself and any family from a potential horrible painful fiery death. Tell him I said he's an idiot.

made I laugh Trev

Hello mate I would put on 16 amp 1.5 will be fine and then write out a cert and explain what and why done as it is and customer knows the score, then it wont come and bite you in the ---

If you cant see whats under the floor and if you have seen 1.5mm2 3 core & earth , there could be anything under that floor for all you know , taped joints you name it . Tell em rewire required

Top advice, and the only advice. Difficult customer. You don't need the hassle for the paltry amount you will make on this.

Spoken like a true Geordie!!

I'm proud of ye bonny lad !! :)

If it were me, I would tell him that I'm not touching the system at all until it's sorted properly and issue him a "Dangerous installation" notice. As Biff says, we can't force them to turn anything off, but we can tell them as professionals that the system isn't fit for purpose. Initially, I would have said to put it on a 16A MCB, but after everything else you've described, it really is dangerous. Too much ------footing around these days with idiots who don't want to listen!

i, for one, would not be fitting a 16A MCB. while that might make the installation safer, another bodged job could cause a fire/fatality/injury. then the awkward sod would be pointying his finger at me, as the last one to do anything. walk away.
