Hi, my mate asked a couple of us at work today And we couldn't help, basically he been out to a job where 10 days ago there ring mcb tripped and when turned back it stays on for couple of hours then trips again, this is with everything unplugged, and this womans coax has set on Fire and tv power lead melted, yet not hung pics or anything up to hinder the wiring and also never had a prob in 9 years

wazzup paul . no beer at the pub?
There's no one out tonight besides I've just had a nice little cheque cleared today and I promised her in doors that I wouldn't spend it all on beer and tools. I might buy myself a laptop though, I've now done 2336 posts all from a phone and I think I'm getting white finger on my right index :). Oh well toolstation tomorrow I think, need a new set of rods.

Cheers, do u think the lightening has struck and caused the coax to melt and if there an amplifier in loft due to melting coax it could have caused some problem to the sockets

You have to look at any fault in a methodical manner. What do we know so far? 1, a lightning strike has hit the house. 2, coax external to the building has melted. 3, socket circuit that powers the tv no longer works. Now ask yourself how a lightning strike could affect the sockets? What connects the bolt of lighting to the sockets? A tv amp? Free view box? Digital recorder? It may just be coincidence but you can't ignore facts and that's where I would look first.

Yes it would but with that amount of pressure of voltage from the bolt who knows what the results would be. If this has nothing to do with lightning just go through normal procedures for fault finding.
