Discuss Rip in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

Lol, the thread managed 47 posts over 2 days before it was closed. Once it descends into bickering and handbag swinging it becomes a moderating liability then the right to free speech starts infringing on the staff's right to a good nights sleep.

47 posts in 2 days before you closed it??

We must have been on a go-slow or working to rule on that one then !!

The thing that put that thread on the next level and made it stand out head and shoulders above the other wannabe threads was the fact it was pure concentrated quality that was not diluted by unnecessary quantity.

EXACTLY ....... It was pure class and you STILL closed the damn' thing and just before I pressed "Send" to deliver a real killer punch !!!! :bigcry::mad2:

Next time you want to close a thread that I'm involved in, please PM me first to ask if it's ok !!

i hate seeing a thread closed down when i've just thought of a killer insult !

i demand troll mod privilages !

:-D

I know!! .................. it took me ages to type it - it was like War and Peace ... a true master piece .... and the sods closed the thread before I could post it !!!

I'm not sure if it was I or marv that closed it as we were both moderating it at the same time. If it was me then I won't be in any rush to apologise, I stand by what I said.

Free speech has a place up to a point, and then it descends into chaos!. That's where we come in!.

I just love it when you come over all strong and, and ..... masterful .... :chillpill:.....:biggrinjester:

Damn i missed out on that enjoyable thread.... .any chance of re-opening it at xmas as a bonus to all us evil nasty members who give our time and advice for free.....

I have been known to slate the level of the question asked when i consider the OP shouldn't be even asking such a Q' if he's an active Electrician .... sometimes the OP's or his customers safety has to be made clear and im sorry if this ends up belittling the OP it may be for the best as to open his/her eyes to their lack of competence.......

Although i will admit im one of the more tolerant to a stupid question but even i have my limits.....

Went to a job today to exchange some old recess lighting for new LED fire rated .... when i got their the customer had visitors of which the old bloke said he had wired them yrs ago and to expect the earth wire in the pvc/pvc cable has been utilised as a switch wire.... without thinking i said OMG sounds like a cowboy been on the job..... i said it was a potential hazard especially to other trades if the sheath has damage... he seems a bit out of joint on my comments and made a few excuses and left....

The lady of the house then told me he was an electrician 'retired' and as she saw them out he had commented im just a regulation brigade OTT and it wasn't dangerous....

I had the pleasure of explaining to her all her brass recess fittings had lost their earth because the earth wire he used was originally bringing the earth from a multiple earth joint in the rear of the switch ... i explained that a simple task of changing a lamp could have killed them had their been a faulty fitting or damage to the wiring ... she wasn't impressed ..
This is the reason why we sometimes come across harsh at dumb questions from practicing Electricians.... we all have our blonde moments and its not those Q's im refering to its the potentially dangerous ones....

It seemed a bit premature of High Tower to close the other thread when apparently what what I could see nobody other than him had taken offence at being called bullies while debating a situation that keeps recurring within this group and will continue to do so while the industry continues on the rush to the bottom

Personally I don't think it is unreasonable to expect someone to have done a bit of research before posting a question it is the expect it all now crew that post these basic knowledge questions that find it unreasonable to be rebuffed and resort to accusations of bullying and some sort of victimisation. Just how long would these people last with the unmoderated banter in the site cabin at brew time without becoming the laughing stock of the site

Each generation seems to have a thinner skin than the previous one.

Or am I just showing my age???
