RJ45 - BT Lead | Telephone Accessories - https://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/telephone-accessories/42099-rj45-bt-lead.html?search_query=RJ45-BT+Lead&results=7

have 2nd fixed my network for the 1st time using a small 6u cabinet
one of the cat6 coming in is wired as a slave off of the master BT socket (blue is 2 and white/blue is 5)

so what pins of the patch panel in the cabinet do i punch the cat6 blue and white blue- for me to then plug the above lead into this port- and then plug the bt side into the router

or is this lead not intended for that purpose?

normally you would have one of the rj45 ports on the panel or house switch plugged in via a cat5 or 6 ethernet cable into the router from your isp, so for example bt master socket> cable> bt router> cable >your new panel... then into the panel you terminate a cable that runs to where ever you want you network points to be.
the way you are wanting to do it can be done, but you need to have the right router set up to begin with. but it pays to keep it straightforward. that way problems can be identified and solved quicker.
if the isp's router works then you know the problem is on your side, if it doesnt then you know its a openreach problem.

we have installed the bt master on the lower ground floor (where bt comes in)

and the coms cab is on the 2nd floor (this is where the router is going too)

so from the master bt we have a cat6 cable that goes to the cabinet

instead of terminating it into a bt slave socket

i thought i would keep it neater- and terminate it into the patch- then plug my rj45/bt lead into the router

then as normal router into 24way switch>> 24way patch>> various network points

my question was...

what pins of the patch do i have to put my BT blue and white/blue
for it to travel through that lead correctly to give the router the phone line- as it would if i was to terminate it into a slave socket and then bt patch out of that into the router instead

Unusual for a router to have a BT 631 port for the broadband line - they are normally RJ11. That pic seems to show a left-hand plug (i.e. opposite hand to a regular LJ) presumably the line socket of the router matches it?

The blue/white pair of the structured wiring to T568B would be pins 4 & 5 (centre pair of pins), and a BT plug-to-voice-over-structured-wiring cable should have the line pair on these pins even though it's 2 & 5 of the BT plug. There were 'modem' type cables in the past that were wired pin-pin, so the line pair was not on the centre pair of pins, but I haven't seen those for ages.

E2A note that while it is of little significance if neither bell nor ground are run through the RJ45, both polarities of line have been used by different makers of LAU's. See

I have just used converters in the past to run stuff.

BT socket to RJ45 Female - Cat Cable to PP then RJ45 Male to BT Female then the lead from the router plugs in to this.
