They say an Englishman laughs three times at a joke. The first time when everybody gets it, the second a week later when he thinks he gets it, the third time a month later when somebody explains it to him.

Paddy and Sean are planning to go out on a Saturday night, but only have 50 cents between them. Paddy has an idea, he takes the 50 cents of Sean, goes to a butchers and buys a sausage. Sean is really ****ed off at first that Paddy spent their last money on a sausage, but Paddy lets him in on his plan. "We are going into the next pub, order two pints, drink them and when it comes to paying you go down on your knees, unzip my trousers, pull the sausage out and start sucking on it" So, they go into the first pub and do exactly as Paddy suggested. The barmaid is disgusted by the sight and kicks the two out. Paddy says: "see it works, we didn't pay did we?" As Paddy's plan seems to be working they carry on doing it... In the 12th pub, both are quite drunk by now, Sean isn't looking to good. They have just finished their pints... Sean: "I can't do this anymore Paddy my bloody knees are hurting as ****...!" Paddy: "No worries...I lost that bloody sausage in the third pub!"

I can’t understand people using plastic isolators. I’ve never seen a good one yet.

It depends what there used for tony, we tend to use plastic but at the same time.

The biggest power we usually install is 6mm 4 core to pumps unless we are running a supply in or a 24pair control cable.

The only metal isolators I have personally used is schneider that they supplied

Why don't you like the Gewiss isolators, we regularly use their IP65 rotary isolators for general applications 100A or less and don't have any issues.

I don't think much of them compared Europa there isn't much room around the contact, and you can't get as good as connection as the Europa, I actually got a gewiss isolator one time and when I went to tighten the connection the screw rung, there isn't the same depth for the stripped part of the cable to tighten to. but I suppose it's everyone to their own

I don't like them either...cheap carp...
They're not particularly cheap, we can pick up unbranded isolators at half the price. Why do you say they're carp? What is the nature of the failures you've had? We've used them for several years and haven't had issues....well not yet at least but you've got me worried now. Europa aren't readily available here so I can't comment on the comparisons.

Well there really cheap here...

The terminals and screws are real poor...

Its more of an installation problem...

I think this is in the right order of what we installed over the years.
We started with GEC then moved to Bill Royal and Imperial. Over 500 Bill isolators on one job alone.
Bill became unavailable so it became a mixture of Crabtree for smaller drives and Bonner Long for 100A+
Then a mixture of Craig & Dericot and Telemecanique came later.

The Bonner Long were built like tanks, just looking at them was enough to give you a rupture. I liked them so long as someone else had put them up.

Were Bill already coming out of the MEM factory at that point Tony? I know they must have been different at some point in time but even the cast/ironclad (whatever you call it) stuff I've come across has been identical with just a different colour paint and badge on the lid.

You could tell the new ones by the moulded switch bar. Not one of their better ideas.
You could also tell by the gland plate on 30A and above, the old ones were removable.
