Hi guys, just wanted a rough idea how much cable I would use and possibly the cost, it's a small 3 bedroom house with 1 bathroom upstairs and 1 downstairs and 2 living rooms downstairs the run from the board to the kitchen which is the last room in the house is probably 9-10m how much do you reckon 2.5 twin and earth, 1.5 twin and earth would be used if there were 2 sockets in each room and 6 in the kitchen. Downstairs, upstairs and the kitchen had its own ring circuit and also the upstairs and downstairs had its own lighting circuit?

2 skts in each living room? Maybe a rethink is needed on that mate, I'd agree with Danzor on a lot of what he says but not on others but like he says, any left over is for the next one

I generally reckon around 20m of cable per point to be cabled (domestic).

Ha formulas for cable needed in a rewire?

Just price for 200 2.5mm, 100 1mm and 50m 3core, and as said any left use on another job and consider it profit

over the last two years i have stepped down to 1mm instead of 1.5 twin and 3core unless in circumstances with lots of downlighters as part of my austerity measures and has saved me around ÂŁ350 per year of pointless copper

thats nearly my scheme membership paid for and 1mm is so much nicer to work with too :)

No it's not college exercise my mate wanted me to buy him some cable for his home rewire, I told him not to do the work himself but he said he is just wiring and will call the spark to connect up couldn't argue with that.

Really.

I would, and certainly wouldn't be signing off work where I could only see cable ends.

first answer lots
second answer lenth of the total of the outside of the walls times 3 for the power and devide that by 2 for the lighting
third answer buy the cable from screwfix and then take back what you dont use

This sounds interesting, so I need to measure the 4 walls outside right and add them then times by 3 for 2.5 and divede by 2 for 1.5?
E.g 11+11+6+6=34
34x3=102m of 2.5
102\2=51m of 1.5
Is this correct?

Well apparently before the spark went out of the country he told my mate how he would like it wired and to leave the floor boards and shieving off for him to come back and inspect.
