hello again,

what are your methods of chasing plaster board walls with skim.

example : say i want new socket on to ring circuit at height 450mm, how would you get the cable down past the noggin/support between studs.

do you chase out either side of noggin and cut into the noggin, so cable can sit in groove and cover with steel plate and patch back up.

is this the normal way you guys would do this??? and whats the cleanest tool???wall chaser with hoover?

Done this once stud wall could get to the top so cut a hole in the stud 25mm auger half way down was a noggin ,so i used a 20mm auger that was 300mm long but joined this to a 1 meter 16mm masonary using some old hose and a couple of jubalee clips then slid some 20mm conduit over the top of the 2 then drilled the noggin wobbled a bit but there was no patching to do so the time i saved for hacking out and patching was about the same as making a drill bit longer

ipu, you use a dry-line box. cut your socket hole with a padsaw, then poke a rod up inside till it hits the noggin. use the rod to measure the position of the noggin on the outside. then you've found it.

nick. ive used speedbits with extensions for that purpose .

ive seen them , about fiver for 10M length

Right guys if you are talking rods , not for fishing SMB , well not that type any way lol , sorry i bit my teeth and went for the supa rods delux kit hooks , lights rings ,and a small chain and magnet and belive you me the time that chain and magnet has saved is un real , you even get a nylon flexi rod one that glows in the dark just brilliant give you an idea how use full , installing 2 wall lights on a stud wall , able to get to the top so measured and drilled into the stud from the loft pokes the flexi rod with the chain on down the hole ,using a solid rod too dint want to loose the rod down the hole , drilled a 16mm hole where the lights were going then pushed the magnet through the hole stuck to the chain attached a cable and pulled it in , the only damage on the wall was a 16 mm hole just brilliant piece of kit also they now have braided cable clamps so you can attatch cables to the rods no tape no wonder theve won so many awards , ive just bought the telescopic pole for R2 testing it will go 5 meters high brilliant

price for 10 rods varies from around £12 for cheapos to £70 for the posh ones with led light and magnets and things.
