I am doing a non-compliance document for college. I have to find non-compliances whilst on site. I have seen an Intruder Alarm where the PVC Flexible cable is brought through bare metal, so no grommet is fitted. Can anyone tell me what part of BS7671 this would fall under and the definition, please?

Grommets are specifically mentioned in BS7671. This would be along the lines of 'manufacturers instructions' and 'best workmanship principles' etc etc.

Right okay. Do you know what part they are mentioned in specifically?
If it’s round flex, and on a surface box…. What about IP rating?

It's an Intruder Alarm Panel. Are you referring to the ip x rating? It's in the rear of the panel where the cable enters the alarm panel. It has got a tamper on the panel lid, so the Alarm will sound when the cover is removed. I was just wondering if in BS7671 for Cable Entry whether rubber grommets are mentioned?

I think you are going to need another copy anyway Regulation 522.8.1 A wiring system shall be selected and erected to avoid during installation, use or maintenance, damage to the sheath or insulation of cables and their terminations...........................

Agree, if it’s an easy fit to add one then do it.
If there’s no damage to the sheath/flex or sharp metal then Leave it..it’s a non classification code if no damage or not detrimental to the installation.
Obviously the cable may need a compression gland to support the connection.

As well as 7671, I would check relevant standards IA6669 I think is the one for intruder systems.

As for 7671, section 130 will no doubt have a reg for workmanship, part 5 will have something regarding adequate support through the length of the cable and like a bit on strain on terminations, not got my book to hand
