hi, i am booked in to take the 17th edition shortly and want to start getting some jobs in, i am not part p registered although i want to be as soon as possible, just wondered what you can actually do legaly without bein registered? im sorry if this has been asked before which im sure it has

Look at the Part P doc, it gives a guide to what is notifiable and what is not.

You can do notifiable work but you need to contact LABC and pay a fee, about 250 pounds for work under 5 grand, in my area and slightly more for work up to 10 grand , I think you will need to do this to get a decent portfolio of work to join a competant persons scheme. Off the top of my head, new circuits, work in special locations and changing the CU are notifiable. I can't remember where on this forum I read this though, I seem to recall work in kitchens is also notifiable.

I think many use relatives houses as their first assessments and bend the rules a bit with labc, but can't escape the paperwork side..

I have heard that they have vaived the fee when told it was for an assessment, don't know if that was a one off though, it might depend on who you deal with at LABC

very interesting topic so you have to tell customers your not qualified to sign off work and you are going to charge them more to get someone else to sign it off.
what if you haven't got past jobs paperwork?

I have done work with another elctrician who is willing to come along to jobs that need signing, but to be part p my self is what i want. i havent got any paperwork for jobs yet not entirely sure how to go about it?

Get somone else to sign off your work? WHO ? You ,who does the work is solely responsible for"design,construction and testing",so therefore no-one really can sign-off your work.

Go one elecsa or napits web sites have a look , you need a major works IE rewire / consumer unit upgrade ,you need PLI insurance regs on site guide memorandum of electricity supply regs , show you have contracts ,test meter calibration certs , qualies you need 17th edition at least the 2391 will be required too within the first 12 months i think , if you do a job IE change a consumer unit do a cert for that then when you get assessed youy then take the assessor to that job where you will be assessed on your testing etc and it will be mastermenid for question too but well worth it

Sorry I didn't mean it like that I meant he actually does the job too and I'd help, I have read elecsa and understand what's needed it's just the certificates that confuse me? How can I sign it off for the assessment if I cannot yet sign them off? Or is this acceptable on just the two jobs for assesment purposes?

Your Elecsa assessor won't question whether it's been notified or not from my experience, then you can just notify during the month's grace period

I would assume that you would have to hide the Labc fee in the quote for the job, perhaps by paying it out of your own pocket and not mentioning it to the client, just have to make sure the job is big enough to swallow the cost, and if they have any questions just mention that it is all part of the new part p building regs, most customers are unlikely to know exactly what the requirements are to meet building regulations. Just make sure you know exactly what is required as well
