Hi All,
1st post so please excuse the ignorance.
The objective is to have a pair of switched sockets in my loft
I recently had a rewire and didn't ask for any but so be it. I am a competent plumber in training but need some electrical advice relating to:
Bathroom is being refitted (by me) and some of the electrics run under the floor. I am thinking of finding the upstairs socket ring, breaking into it with a junction box, chase out the plasterboard wall and run a 2.5mm up to a fused switch spur in the loft and then onto a double socket.
So my query is:
- Of the cables under the floor which is the upstairs socket ring?
- I did get the electrician to run a shower cable, no longer required, to the loft, can i use this instead
Note: The cables for the lighting circuit and downstairs ring also run through the flooring and drop down to ground level.
- If i were to employ an electrician to action this what would an approximate cost be?
Cheers
Andy

You can not though take another spur of that spur
So my query is:
- Of the cables under the floor which is the upstairs socket ring? Give up you will have to tell us that one
- I did get the electrician to run a shower cable, no longer required, to the loft, can i use this instead Bit over kill for a single socket. But you could if you wished
Note: The cables for the lighting circuit and downstairs ring also run through the flooring and drop down to ground level.
- If i were to employ an electrician to action this what would an approximate cost be? Not a lot
Cheers

you could use the shower cable in the loft. fit a 13A FCU ( fused spur ) on the end of the cable, then 2.5mm to your socket/s. this will avoiud chasing up from the upstairs floor. the MCB for the shower ( as was ) can be dropped to 20A or 16A. for what it will cost to get a qualified spark to do this for you, that is what i would advise.

What area do you live in? A forum member may be able to assist you.

I personally would utilise the shower cable, it may as well do something rather than nothing and it will save the chasing of the wall and making good - That'll keep you in the good books with the missus;)

I would go with telectrix on this one, its the least hassle option, if you were to chase a cable up the wall it would need to be done within 150mm of any edge of the wall to run the cable in a safe zone

Just take the 6mm to a socket outlet. Down rate at the CU to 32A or less if you want. Why mess about with FCU’s when not needed? The CU MCB is to protect the cable, at 6mm with a 32A MCB is giving it lots of breathing space.
A simple solution.

i suggested the FCU as OP said he wanted to run a pair of socket outlets in the loft.
