Running cable in cavity

A quick question - would 25mm oval conduit be sufficient mechanical protection to run cable in an internal cavity wall?

How you going to get the oval conduit in? Must be a big entry hole.

easier to use round. unless you have an oval drill bit.

well basically one end of the cavity is currently open so it easy to run the cable - I am running it down from the ceiling to a socket in the cavity wall

Personally, I would avoid running cables in cavities if at all possible. If it becomes damaged from contact with a cavity tie, you might not see it.

If you must, wouldn’t some sort of flexible plastic conduit be better?

Just been looking at regs for this. Using flexible conduit should provide strain relief and a compliant bend at the top cavity point of entry - that's where most of the mechanical stress would be (reg 522.8.4 and .5). It would also provide protection from falling debris (reg 522.6.2).

Agree. Never a good idea. And there's the risk of someone drilling through the wall and not having any clue that it's there.

Agreed - avoid cavity installs wherever possible - but the original query was about an internal cavity and mechanical protection.

Personally I’d avoid putting a socket in the cavity unless you have a very slim client!
