Hello guys,

It’s my first post here so please be gentle :)

I’m having a kitchen extension done and will have the hob and few powerpoints installed on the kitchen island meaning the wires will need to run under the floor.

The floor is concrete subfloor and will have 80mm PIR insulation followed by underfloor heating and then 60mm liquid screed so pretty much standard build.

My question is what is the best placement for running the wires and do they need derating?

Thank you

I would run either 2 x 25mm flexible conduit or 1 x 32mm
under the concrete slab
put a draw wire in and let the electrician draw in the cables they need.

I would use a twinwall duct or may be 2 either 50/40 or 63/50 on the subfloor with the insulation over it which will hold it in position when pouring the concrete screed
Better to have too much duct capacity than find you don't have enough when the job nears completion

Damn, the

builder just poured a new slab only last week, I guess I will have to chase the channel out for the ducting. Is there any min depth this needs to be at? Thanks

The ducting can go on top of the slab and between/under the insulation, but it will derate the cable's current carrying capacity. Whether this requires a larger cable is one for the electrician to decide.
