Well I'm staggered Trev "all due respect mate" I thought I gave a good answer, I was hoping he'd work it out.

Maybe I'm over sensitive just now Kas, if so I apologise but it just seems that there's a lot on here lately that are ready to bite people's heads off for asking a question. I thought maybe you'd jumped on that boat.

Not on this occasion, there are many a qualified electrician that have never been taught and never heard of ''Staggered'' ring circuits. So i'd consider this is a fair question by the OP!!

My son has just qualified after he finished a 4 year apprenticeship in September 2012 and was never taught this method. It all came to light when he was wiring dado trunking and hadn't a clue about running from the DB to the 2 closest sockets and then staggering. I blame the colleges to a degree for the lack of knowledge of the younger crew.

I bet he knows all about staggered rings now!! lol!!

So you have a chip off the old block then, good for him!! My son went for the CIBSE HVAC/Building Services, route but we can still have a bit of a crack on the electrical side of things!! lol!!

Yes and he works for the same company as myself although he has never been on any of my jobs (probably for the best lol). Another son starts his apprenticeship with the company this September providing he passes his exams in school.

db-1-3-5-6-4-2-db any help lol
I know what you mean but for some reason I'd only really considered doing that in commercial installs in trunking, mainly singles in dado trunking. If it were all in trunking and going back the same way as it goes in (if you understand what I mean) then that is a good way of doing it, to spread the load and to avoid one bit of cable having to run from the last socket all the way back past the others to the DB.

I'm not sure if that was what the OP was asking, but I can see this thread ending badly...

Hi Sintra

Could you please explain how you actually install this system, I've never heard of this and would like to know, so I can use it.
Many Thanks
T&E

Kas, all due respect mate but don't you think he may have learnt slightly different terminology, or maybe is a trainee. It's good to ascertain someone's skill level before beasting them for no reason.

totally agree and that was my first thought, then I saw the join date, still it is a possibility.

Or....

DB - 1 - 3 - 5 - } -6

DB- 2 - 4 - 6 - } - 5

lol!!....

Just follow the wiring methods shown above. Take cable from DB to socket 1 then another cable from DB (the two ends of the ring) to socket 2, from socket 1 cable to socket 3, and from socket 2 to 4and so on. In the case of 6 sockets, socket 5 is connected to socket 6 to complete the ring!! It's very simple really...
