Safe isolation certificate????????

Hello all,

Help with a head scratcher please.

I've been asked to isolate an area of automated conveyoring for a customer but have been asked for a certificate to say that the area is dead, control panels are isolated and control cables cant be energised ahead of others dismantling equipment.

I have been asked to issue a certificate to say the area is dead but I've not heard of a cert for this. I am experienced with testing and certification but not this.

Pretty standard now to issue a certificate of isolation.

Really? I've never been asked other than tag a padlock. Care to elaborate please or where may i find a template.

A certificate of isolation is issued when you are carrying out isolations that other parties will have to work on.

It's good practice to use multi-hasps so that the person doing the work can also apply their lock. Standard practice in most industries.

We use a "permit to work" system that includes safe isolation on the paperwork.

We use electrical isolation permits on systems that are required to be left isolated for a period of time or fit others to work on. I don't use them when I'm isolating for work I'm carrying out myself.
A multihasp lock is part of this system.

I started in the chemical industry. A PTW was needed to go to the bog. Self-isolation was a NoNo. Go on to some bits of kit and you would spend more time making out permits and doing the isolations than you would doing the job. To enter one of the mills would need 77 permits and isolations. Handing on a job was such a pain that you’d stop back and finish it yourself.
