Safety advice- caught a wire drilling?

Hi all, I drilled a hole to fit a new cooker hood and had no shock etc when drilling. When I was cleaning the hole out to put the rawl plug in I got a small tingle (no smoke, spark, bang etc). Is it possible I've nicked a wire or just come close to one? I used a metal/ voltage finder and nothing showed. It's an old house and the walls are thick so wires rarely pick up on the detector anyway. I've ended up putting a shorter rawl plug and screw in. Any advice? Is it worth getting an electrician in to look at it? Looking at the lay out of the sockets and previous holes I'm not sure how a wire could be there?? It's the hole circled on the photo I've attached. Any advice appreciated

That hole is right in line with the switch below. Seems like you have drilled a wire. Bit worrying you did not blow a fuse. So yes you will need an electrician. It will also need digging out of the wall. So I guess you will have to suspend the cooker hood operation until that matter is settled. Should cost around £50.00

Maybe you also cut the wire when you drilled the hole for the lower support too..............

not being picky but having that switch behind the hob isn't a good idea anyway .......................... should be 150mm to 300 mm away from the edge of the hob

I know, there's a lot of things like this that need to be changed potentially in the house. It's 130 years old and needs a lot of work so just doing bits at a time. Appreciate the advice though

this shows where cables would/should be in relation to sockets and switches. can't always be sure if the diagonal monkeys (usually builders) have been bodging though.

So fitting a new kitchen around incorrectly positioned switches is a good idea?

A bit short sighted imho. What is behind the blanking plate to the right?

Also make sure you isolate the power when you chisel those tiles off......

I keep a short length of chewed up t&e in the drill box to remind me to check for possible cable runs.
Drilling into polyfilla instead of plaster is also a tell tale sign

I would say that is a bit on the low side, I would have said £80-100.
if I was going to repair that cable and have to open up the wall to get to it. If its board and dot and dab, then not much of a task. although it does provide an opportunity to re-position that switch in the picture behind hob running the repaired cable to it.

my advice is change your tiler ,that's the worst i have ever seen

Take me five minutes to get that cable out of the wall. Fix. Gone in 30 minutes. Anyway my optimistic price is based on what it should be.
