I appologise for this as I should know but what are the safety checks you would make on test instruments before commencing testing

Im thinking to check for damage on both the body of the instrument to be used and leads if they are to be used and make sure the instument is fuctioning

makeing sure that there is only 2mm of exposed metal on probes

and thats all I can think of
 
1. Make sure your leads are in good condition ie no nicks cuts joint
2. Check your tester most have battery checks on them.
3. Check the tester is working ie continuity test with both leads joined.
4. Test on a known source .
5. And as trigger would say look after your tester.........................................
