I’m curious to find out how us electricians earn, compared to others? Having read the editorial in professional electrician about how our counterparts in Australia, Japan, USA, Germany earn anything from £11k to £19k more than we do here, added to a train driver now being able to get pay of £50k+ for a 37.5hr week, I’m wondering if it’s actually worth continuing in the trade with all the hassle it brings? My hourly rate when broken down is paltry in comparison to the train driver

From what I recall, there was one BEAMA representative on the committee.
Not sure how changing from plastic to metal increases manufacturer’s profits?

No, it is illegal for someone who is not GasSafe registered to work on gas for payment.
If someone installs their own boiler, they do not have to be registered, just competent.

Last time I read up on that, the DIY'er had to the same or similar level of competency as GasSafe registered engineer.

I know of people installing the boiler, pipes, but the final gas connection, installing the flue, work on the boiler itself should or must (dependant on interpretation of the gas regs) be done by GasSafe bloke.

I see you are obviously offended that someone dare disagree with you but hey that's the way life is
Sorry to disapoint you @UNG I am not offended and welcome debate. You have me all wrong I was curious to know what you disagreed with and accordingly asked you. I do not see anything in what I asked as being contentious, just a polite question. You may disagree with me until you are blue in the face and my life will go on serenely. Don't mistake honest debate and enquiry with someone being upset. I think it is easy to sit behind the parapets firing away but try not to be surprised when someone calls you on it. You should be prepared to justify your statements or contributions without resorting to name calling or infantile statements.

A good mate of mine packed in sparkying a few years back to go train driving. He earns more, less stressed and has more free time. I guess it all depends on your personal circumstances and also which part of the country you live in. In my neck of the woods a cards in sparky earns around £15 per hour & self employed around £25.

It wasn’t really hot on it’s heels, it was about 3 years later.

It was actually 2 years between the introduction of Part P and the 17th which is not really sufficient time to gather enough meaningful information on the effect of Part P before any data would be skewed by the introduction of the 17th edition.

What did happen when Part P was introduced, is Electricians purchased MFTs and started testing their work.

I was using an MFT at least 4 years before Part P was introduced and my work and for that matter the companies work was tested and certified long before that so I don't think Part P was responsible for that

The LFB did not force anything through.
The JPEL/64 committee decided to introduce Am3.

Look at the lobbying the LFB and did all the evidence to support AMD3 CU's was all LFB. The committees chose to ignore the stats for the rest of the UK was that because the stats for the rest of the UK didn't support those of the LFB. I've seen a few things recently where Dany Cotton seems to be looking for the next LFB crusade let's just hope it has more substance than CU fires

May be you are not disappointed so what
I don't find "@UNG you disagree? with what exactly, figures or an even minded approach?" polite in fact the tone of your post was possibly a little aggressive. Many people on here choose to click the disagree button without being asked for justification I was leaving it at that you chose to put fingers to keyboard and made a very terse response to a press of the disagree button

You may disagree with me until you are blue in the face and my life will go on serenely. Don't mistake honest debate and enquiry with someone being upset.

You carry on in your serene little world blue in the face is one thing I am not there is nothing to debate. There is and was no need to debate your post it lacked information and research that is quite readily available in the public domain , why because all the fact and reasons you posted have been addressed by regulations that is why I disagreed with it

I think it is easy to sit behind the parapets firing away but try not to be surprised when someone calls you on it.

I think you'll find a lot of that on here sit back and take a look at yourself

You should be prepared to justify your statements or contributions without resorting to name calling or infantile statements.

?

Thanks, thats the only bit I was enquiring about. Wasn't so hard was it? Sorry if you found my phrasing terse it was not meant to be.

Um, Part P was introduced January 1 2005, the 17th Edition was published January 1 2008 and came into force July 1 2008.
Not sure which method of arithmetic you use, but the one I use makes that 3 years.

It’s my opinion that MFT sales increased after Part P was introduced.

Not aware that the LBF did any lobbying.
They certainly didn’t lobby me.
