Sav-wire

Hi there, was just wondering if someone could give me some insite to how sav-wire bases work? And with sav wire do all components have to be sav wire compatible, eg sounders call points etc? Im thinking with sav wire u can have sounders on same circuit as the detection etc. so if a sounder was the furthest point on a circuit this would be e.o.l? Any knowledge would be appreciated.
