Yes, I've never had an issue in swapping one out, old for new, one type for another, or even swapping out to another make of inverter completely, or the converse to be honest, they are very basic drives.
Altivars and their kin from other makers.

Then you should know where an external run command is wired in or more specifically getting it to work...The information sent with the drive is right there above...

Basic stuff for you Paul...:troll:

It's not just configuring where it takes its external run command from, the external run command also needs it ramp settings, speed max and min settings plus the desired speed settings to be programmed (plus various other parameters) as well because all these parameters can be different depending if you use the external switch to start the drive or you use the keypad start button.

You see all that is set up no problem and it works perfect from the drive itself but the old unit was able to Start and stop from a rotary switch but the new one doesn't seem to be able too...

Has anybody got any experience with these drives?

More specifically the Altivar12 and an external run/stop command.

Ive replaced a faulty obsolete Telemecanique unit for this, its direct replacement and it is exactly the same unit but I cant get the existing run command (Only a switch) to work with the new unit. It will only stop it, you have to press run on the drive.

Getting no reply from Schneider themselves :nonod:

schnedier are crap at giving information and we work for them.

call the one in ashby, they should be able to help you. there having massive refurb done.

havent seen that inverter before we tend to use
Altivar ATV 31C

(cant remember which inverters but last batch were all fubar)

This is a common problem when replacing any duff unit is knowing how the source command options were set up ... I tend to just ignore everything that may be an choose a drive the will suit the needs of the application as I see it. When you assign terminal input as others have mentioned you will have several options as to what the terminal functions do by setting a parameter code as well as been able to assign your own options on certain terminals...

Its possible your unit is set to need a Run enable command plus a direction command and dropping either will stop motor also it may have a separate N/C stop command where some factory default unit use the same terminal as the enable drive (closed - enabled or open -stop).

Im pretty sure you'll figure it they usually are quite easy to follow using quick set-up its just a pain when an old drive is set up in a way you can't translate to the new drive and may need a little minor wiring alterations.

Another tripping point is how the old drive sourced its signal voltages NPN or PNP ..you may have a control circuit trying to input 24v from an external power supply which until you adjust for this the drive won't see the voltage.

yes i use all over factory and cranes.. altivar 312 though but exactly the same expect for 3ph input instead of single.. you will have to set up parameters for remote switching.... forgot the parameter number off top of my head !

nothing stupid... it was single phase input before? and 3 phase or single phase output of course depends on what motor your feeding.. not insulting your intelligence here by the way !

DW,
If you are working with CE marked machines you should replace like for like, else you are undertaking an uncontrolled modification, and invalidating the CE mark.
You are then taking on design liability for the whole machine as you were the last person to undertake any design works on the control system.
Not something I would recommend.
Does not always matter, but, should be something that you seriously consider when undertaking modifications.
Plus remember to keep you PII up to date.
