Was in the scrappys about 2 months ago. Scruffy trampy bloke was in there with a stanley knife and a BRAND new 100m roll of 10mm Earth!!!! He was really struggling to strip it. He'd only done about 5 mtrs. To help him out I asked the scrappy what it was worth. ÂŁ 15 later it was on the back of my van.:D

that defies belief :D

Yeah tell me about the price of scrap copper, Just spent the last 2 days installing 160M of 3 core 70mm SWA & 200M of 4 core 50mm SWA thanks to thieving pikeys nicking the lot. They seem to think the railway is an endless supply of copper for them to pilfer !!

Although the scrap left at the end of the job does pay for the Christmas p!ss up ..

Just today I had some old polish spark come and take a couple meter of armoured from our off cuts I asked him what he was doing and he just said, "rubbish" I said that's ours mate and he said, "from other site next door" his English was terrible! I only had a go cos his younger foreign mate told me off cos I took his conduit which he originally took from our own gear! There really nasty people!

Interesting reading this thread as it started a fair while ago, asking about 250 kilos of copper pipe, which would now fetch nearly a fiver a kilo!

Incidentally I read one poster that mentioned he burnt the insulation off, no joke thats a bad idea. My brother in law is a paramedic and went to a farm (last year) near Bristol, as there was a fatality. It was the son of the family in the house, and in the fireplace was a bunch of cable that he'd burnt. Died from the fumes.

Not a good plan.

If I was a much more cynical person, I would say burning the cable in your house would be Darwinism at work. But I'm not, so poor guy.
