IMO it is definately not worth stripping it, I weigh it in regularly and get about £20 for a rubble sack crammed full of old cable and offcuts, plus any lead or copper pipes found under floors, etc.

Well worth doing, but I reckon even though it is worth a bit more stripped, the time it would take would be totally not worth while

3.60 is really good , only got a few bags at the moment, so putting in a bag and leaving it in the garage to pile up might be worth it in the long run:)

Its between £3.50-£4.00 round here now. Dont know about the domestic boys, but if you are doing anything largish, its surprising how quickly the weight adds up. If it took me half an hour to strip 10 kilo's of copper, that would be worth it to me.
For the small stuff, do as others have said, and save it up over the course of a year, even if you only get a hundred quid, it is free money (dont weigh it in at christmas, as some places drop their prices then).

Just had a nice little weekend payday for scrap collected during the last 2 weeks.

38,300 Kilos light / medium steel @ £87.00 per tonne = £3332.10

718 kilos aluminium (old cat 2 louvres) @ £672.00 per tonne = £482.50

386 kilos copper (insulated single cable) @ £1450.00 per tonne =£559.70

Total = £4374.30

Split between 9 guys we ended up with £486.00 each.

PS. we still have all the heavy SWA sub mains to get out next week so looking forward to more free money.

Thinking of inventing a t+e stripper, for the difference in price! A couple of old drums, a few crank handles and some stanley blades.... should be pretty straightforward.

im doin a bit of Demo work in a hospital that was only built 14 year ago and you want to see how much copper/steel and ally is getting taken out of the place tonnes and tonnes of the stuff from just 1 building .Demolition companies must make some serious coin from rip outs.
