So over the past few months or so I have been ripping out SWA from an old warehouse unit for a mate. I have got loads of short bits of 1.5 & 2.5 SWA the lengths vary from about 2M to about 15M. Its all old colours and most ends still have the rusted glands on it and some galv boxes still attached as well. Will the scrap man take the cables like this. Its about 100M all told ?

I think they pay around ÂŁ4.50 per kg for bright copper - that's all insulation removed.

I was told around 40-50% of that if they have to strip it.

Around 25% if it's burned-out/blacked/corroded

Thanks, I have a feeling it won't be worth the petrol to make the 20 mile round trip to the scrappers.
Probably end up taking it to the tip.

I moved house recently and in doing so had a clear out of my stores, didn't have the time or energy to deal with the mountain of cable and SWA scraps so it just went in the skip along with everything else. When the driver came to collect the skip I said to him that if he and the rest of the lads had the time back at the yard it would be worth them getting to ransack it first before management did - his face lit up like a kids at Christmas.

I strip off the glands and chuck in a box for a decent weigh in. Scrap SWA just gets weighed as it is, same as T&E up to 6mm. 10mm and above is strip to bright for a better price.
