Screened compartment trunking

Anyone come across screened compartment trunking before? If so is anyone aware of any specific reg governing the use of this, in regards to length of run allowed for lv cables in elv side?

Generally speaking LV cables should not be in ELV compartments of trunking.

Look at reg 528.1 it states 'that every cable or conductor is insulated to the highest voltage present' , if run in the same trunking ,As for screening this is normally part of the cable to prevent interference for example SY cable

Need to post more information up regarding the job to be honest.

Most screening is just a divider in the trunking, also who spec'd/designed the job as thats down to them to specify in the job spec.

No I mean plastic dado trunking that has a special type of paint in the elv side to provide a screen for interference. First time I’ve come across it tbh.

I know they shouldn’t be together in the same compartment but sometimes it’s unavoidable and crossing occurs. Also on long runs of cable tray you have the same issue.

Disagree with the cable tray, i have never seen ELV and LV run on the same tray, you can cross through the dado and use a divider to separate the cables. If your using dado why cant you keep them separate?

They can’t be kept seperate due to the way it’s been designed. I’ve very rarely seen seperate tray runs for elv cables. You can get more than adequate separation on cable tray but like I say, occasionally they will cross over

Yes I’ve used it.
Not aware of an specific or non-specific Reg governing it’s use.
If ELV and LV cables are run in the same containment, the insulation of both should be rated at the highest voltage.
Rule of thumb, is that data and LV cables should not be together for more than 1 metre.

I had a metre in my head but wasn’t sure if it was a regulation or not. So it’s just a rule of thumb. Thanks for clearing it up.

The 1 metre rule of thumb applies to data, not ELV.
There is no maximum distance for ELV and LV being run together.
