Has anyone used Heller SDS chisels? I'm after a new channelling chisel and can get a good deal on one, or a Makita - are they any good as well?

Nice one!

I bought a 110v Makita SDS drill with rotary stop for chiselling . £20 from car boot. it's brilliant, done loads of work, and not too heavy either. recommend 11/10.

Only used Heller drill bits and they are as good as any other major brand I can think of.

To be honest, the Makita one is going to be manufactured by the like of Heller anyway. Me, i'd go for whichever you could get cheapest.

sorry, misread the post. thought you were talking about the tool, not the bit. personally i prefer to use the joiner's sharpest wood chisel

yep. there's a guy always at the car boot, sells 2nd hand tools and power tools. got a dewalt 24v SDS with 2 batts, £200. he's also got a shop in stoke. Mr.Toolman. think he also on tinternet.

ive got a set of makita sds bits there good but i wouldnt pay extra for them over another unless someones had a bad expreriance with one as makita bits are made in china for them then badged up (applys across the range of makita drill bits)

That's what made me go with the Heller in the end as it's made in deutschland,if they did the Makita ones in Japan I would have had them, but China ain't exactly renowned for it's top quality steels....
