OK guys i have question, more to do with building regs. When bringing your cables through a standard plasterboard ceiling either a ceiling pendant or even a flourscent fitting other than keeping the holes as small as possible & sealing with a suitable filler to prevent the spread of fire, are there any other precautions or firestopping products on the market used for this scenario. I am aware that aico do loft caps fan guards & inserts for dry linning boxes etc which i have used in the past, but nothing for a ceiling rose. Any ideas or help with this. Many thanks

you can get intumescent firepads/gaskets that are a either a circle for pendants or a single or double box for sockets they have a sticky back, when they reach a certain temperature they expand much like the ones used in some fireproof down lights. i think citys sell them,we had to install them in every accessory in timberframed houses we were rewiring for the council.

I've used the fire proof putty in the past in the back of backboxes etc for "fire barrier walls" as the spec asked for it and it does the job, not that messy either, but as above said if it's not a fire barrier I don't fill the holes behind fittings etc
