We have had a cable to the siren left under a now finished floor and was wondering if the siren can be wired from a PIR sensor that has 2 spare cores back to the panel and what the connections would have to be?

You could do it but its not ideal however if it gets you out of trouble so be it,would not pass a nacoss inspection though,pm me the diagram for bell box and I will work it out for you.

Oh dear, can you not run a new cable? As Phil says using the PIR cable is a possibility, but definitely not recommended - I wouldn't let you do it on my system! :cowboy:

No you cannot as you need 5 cores for an external siren and the PIR is wired from an auxillary circuit ie 300mA so run a 6 core between the CP and the sounder

You can use four cores on some sounders, but you are spot on re the current draw from the aux supply for most domestic panels!

Regards.

The majority of sounders has a strobe light hence why 5 cores are need and yes you could do it with 4 core and connect the strobe in with the sounder trigger but that defeats the latched strobe light function that the police like to see as they zip up the street

as usual, OT is spot on with alarms. as said, you could get away with 4 cores, commoning the tamper, but sounders draw too much juice when activated for the aux. 12v output. the only way possible would be to ditch the tamper pair in the PIR and feed 4 cores direct to sounder, using the bell output terminals in the CP.

Thats if the tamper pair is wired in ie the PIR could have a 4 core and if it is then you know the system is not up to spec so you need 5 cores for the following
1. Red constant +12vdc hold off
2.Black constant -12vdc hold off
3.Blue -12vdc trigger to activate sounder (timed)
4. Yellow -12vdc return tamper to cp
5. Green -12vdc trigger for strobe (latched)

agreed. i was just trying to give OP a let out. OK, it's something we would not do, but might save him a lot of hassle.
