hi
just been to have a look at a security light a friend of mine as had fitted. the electrician has spured off a socket into a fcu and then out to the light all in 1.5mm T&E. the fuse is correct etc. but on the minor works cert he hasnt entered the R1+R2 figure or the measured Zs. is this ok or should i advise my friend to get the electrician back to test these.
I ask because i am training as an electrician and thought all parts of the cert was to be filled in?
thanx for any replies.

Yeah the nature of the job sounds ok, but not completing the cert ..... makes me wonder whether he found something he didn't like and should have addressed before he started.

Do the tests yourself beaman and see what you get ....... and take it from there.

Cheers.

Don't bother looking for a reg number, there isn't one. I agree though its a mess, even some old timers i know, think everthing outside goes on an rcd/rcbo. A grey area is over 32A, even then there are counter regs.

I do a bit of security work, mostly commercial but sometimes domestic, most savvy councils insist even on domestic dwellings, no rcd protection for outside lighting, security ir cameras etc

indeed sometimes i have to break the tails and give a 'conventional dis board'.....if some clown has made the existing board full rcd protection -;)

The Regulations for outdoor lightinginstallations has been expanded, compared to Section 559 in the 17 Edition, to cover car parks, gardens, parks, places open to the public, illumination of monuments and floodlighting. Other lighting arrangements specifically mentioned include telephone kiosks, bus shelters, advertising panels and town plans, which it is recommended are provided with additional protection by a 30mA RCD.

Yes I know, but now you changed the rules. You are now protecting the public. Which is different...reasonable precautions and all that

it still is not a legal requirement btw, but just like pat testing, they are deemed to have taken reasonable precautions

i would rather stick a rcd spur in be safe and all that remember we sign that cert ... now any cowboy would wire a light to a ring main without protection .. we are not cowboys we do things by the good red book ;-)
