Hi
Just been given the job of rewiring an empty house.I usually take my tools home each night, but was looking at leaving them on site. Was looking for a system using cctv over a mobile network that would go to my phone if some one get in during the time its empty. Any one done this sort of thing?

I would not leave my tools on site overnight ever.

Once knew some guys left their tools overnight in a steel container. Little did they know the local scum would break into the site with a huge stolen Stihlsaw.
Did they cut the lock off ? Nah, these were criminal masterminds you see. They spent the time to cut their own door. A full size door. Through the energised dado trunking on the inside. The coppers caught them legging it across fields with the heavy toolboxes.

That was in a different part of town though. We have polite thieves round this end. I know this from the time I left my car unlocked on my drive. They went in, opened my boot, went in my tools, and tried to nick my CD player. When they couldn't get it out and finding nothing they wanted in the glove box, they returned my tools to my toolbox, closed it up, made sure my boot and doors were shut, and went on their way ... :)

all the big sites i worked at had quite heavy security so there wasnt much issue, secure sites basically, whisky distillery had boys floating about in 4x4s all the time i was there, tools were pretty safe as the boys were all sound, only time ive left tools onsite though

On longish jobs I will often leave ladders and hop ups on site but pretty much nothing else. Boxes of cable clips can stay on the site but cable drums, unless nearly empty, are coming with me.

To the OP, it is a domestic rewire? Surely only three weeks works maximum, so not worth leaving your gear. That said, it may be up six flights of stairs with the car park 200 metres away!!
