Hi all..

A friend of mine might be buying an old restuarant and he wants to turn the down stairs into offices for his business and the upstairs into a flat to rent. If he gets it i'll be wiring it for him:). But he wants the flat and the offices on two seperate meters. My questions are.

1) Is this possible for me to do this, some how or will I have to arrage for the local DNO to come and carry the work out?

2) Seeing that the offices are obivously commercial will they requirer a full fire alarm system?

Sorry for what is probably some simple questions but i havn't really touched this sort of work before. as maily domestic. Thanx's

Is anybody out there :p

If you want seperate billing for the flat/office then you will need to get the supplier in. If you want to just charge the flat owner for the electricity used then just fit a meter to their supply and charge accordingly.
The fire alarm issue is not really my area..sorry on that one.

Yes fire alarm will be required and both commercial and flat will be to be linked together contact local authority/ fire bridge safety officer for local requirement, you will also have to install emergency lighting and maybe a police light.

Type of fire alarm system will depend on use of shop etc, type of protection either property or both property and persons, may be fully automatic (both smoke and heat) or part automatic with manual fire alarm point/pushes.

Sorry not done any installation work since 2005, I do know they updated fire regulation, might be worth getting hold of a copy of IEE
