This could be a little long winded so bear with me.......

After posting on another thread this morning about not requiring to be a member of a scheme in scotland in order to sign off work, i went to look at a small em light job at a hotel. I got speaking to the owner who said would i be interested in doing a eicr as his insurance company had requested one (they have NEVER asked for one before. He showed me the letter which stated "only a NICEIC, SELECT or other UKAS accredited company will be acceptable" Anyway, he showed me round the hotel, 30 odd bedrooms, large kitchen, 4 public rooms and large bar. Just from a visual look at the installation theres going to be a lot of remedial works, not to mention alterations and planned upgrades ect. He then happened to drop into the conversation he has 4 other properties (rentals), a hostel and a campsite nearby!

Problem i have is, in order to do the eicr im going to have to join a scheme, im not eligable to join NICEIC or Select (have to be approved in scotland) but could join Napit as they are UKAS accredited. The work has to be complted by late January so i would need to apply asap.

Is it a no brainer to join scheme in order to get the initial work (and a foot in the door) ?????

Either speak to the insurance company yourself, or ask your client to do so.
I have often found that once they've been spoken to, they relax that condition.
In fact I don't recall even one instance where they have refused to accept my paperwork.
I've had problems with Local Authorities, but not with insurance companies.

I thought about that but didnt think it would help thanks spinlondon, ill definently give it a try. Insurer is Towergate, have you delt with them before?
