Not sure if this will interest anyone, but thought I'd post it up anyway. Finally on the 2nd callout in a year for bitumen leaking from my service head Southern Electric popped round this morning to change it out. Actually to be fair Southern Electric (and the lads who did it) were really good.

Just curious, whats the wording on that DANGER label attached to the cable.

Once I get back from work later today I'll take a closer look at the label and let you know what it says. Probably some H&S thing "Warning live cable" or similar.

Tel/Malcolm/IQ

Apparently before the previous owner put the flat on the market they decided to make it all look pretty by slapping white paint over it all. As they've been working on it, and it'll be some practice, I'll do a Ze on it this evening. Only did a quick Zs before and after to make sure there weren't any immediate issues.

Well this should start an interesting thread of

"Can I pull the DNO fuse"

A 'source' tells me that we are close to getting an agreement on fuse pulling.

In the forthcoming mass installation of 'smart-metering', meter installers will have to access the consumer's consumer unit to ensure compliance with 526.1 following the mechanical stresses placed on the 'tails' during meter replacement.

Apparently this access has to be agreed by a certain organisation as part of the Code of Practice and this will likely lead to an agreement for fuse pulling by competent persons.

We've been close to an agreement before so it will be interesting to see what comes of this in the next few months....

Yes remember this that the NICEIC I believe or the ECA, was trying to get this pushed through. If you were a member of these you could apply for 10 unmarked seals from the network suppliers and pull the fuse and then re-fit the unmarked seals, and then send of the old seal (if there) with a form and the DNO would then reseal with a coded one.

I thought it fell through for a couple of reasons, 1 H&S and 2 Administration for the net work suppliers. I could never see a real problem with the nice plastic heads, but I have to admit there is many a time you stare at an old Cast/Bakelite carrier and go gulp.

Thanks IQ. I thought after posting that the college i attend has an exposed earth bar so maybe just a domestic issue. Has this come about because of the sh*t that passes for an exposed met in some domestic scenarios IQ?

There isn't a specific reason, the reg's refer to a 'main earthing terminal or bar'.

I agree though, some METs in domestic situations are rather poor.
